Make a difference

741px-Bouguereau-The_First_Mourning-1888With today’s news about the senseless taking of young lives in Newtown, CT, I am deeply sadden by it and left as I think you are asking why.  I have read posts on Facebook, Twitter and Google+ about it all day.   Many people have many questions about why.  The details of this young man’s life will come out soon.  There are calls for more gun control and laws about guns.

To me, that is not the total or complete answer.  People want a fast and quick fix so they can feel good about themselves and be done with it.  Do we need laws about who can own guns?  Yes.  These are for those who should not own them.  Be it for mental or criminal reasons.  Yes, there are other Countries that have outlawed guns and have their own way to deal with it.  I am not going to talk about that.

What is needed as a few of my Social Network friends have point out is: Respect, Character, support for mental health, and working to support single families and “Following the Golden Rule”.     The cause of most violence is the fact that people have issues that they cannot control at times and react in these ways.  You do not need a gun to kill someone.  A rock will kill someone if you hit them with it repeatedly.  As it is related in the scripture of Cain killed Able one brother was jealous of another and killed him for it.

We all have choices in life.  What you do with your choice is up to you.  It is ok for you to lean on others in time of need.  It is your circle of friends and support that will help guide you.  “Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Taking away guns will do nothing, giving, showing and earning respect to and from others will go much further.  Be a friend, help others and get the youth into activities that show respect for themselves and others.   Support those who need help that will help stop these shootings.
