Another interesting post, as always! I never think about the connection between Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and how similar things really can be. Also, your comment at the end reminds me to be diligent about youth protection on so many other levels as well.

What is done is done, at this point their is no going back. The BSA made the decision yesterday and now we must deal with changes in membership. Unfortunately it is to be expected that some will drop and some will stay. All we can do is work to build Scouting.

I am so sorry to those who feel they have to leave Scouting because of this change and I appreciate the service you have provided to Scouting.

As I read this, I got a phone call from one of my Webelos leaders. Due to his religious beliefs he's pulling his son and himself out today. Damn that hurts, such a great youth who has a ton of potential. And a really good all around family. I echo your sentiment, they are always welcome back. I don't take it personally. I am just thinking about the Scouts.

THanks for this. I was starting my fifth gallon of whole blood a few years back, when I switched to apherises. I have received the random letter where the Red Cross personally thanked me for a "save" by having an exact match.

Then in a great irony, I got cancer myself. While I never needed a transfusion, the idea of the big "circle of life" wasn't lost on me. I'm better now, but I may never donate again. Thanks for picking up the slack!

Who says ticket items have to stay WoodBadge? Why not reset another goal for ticket 1 and bring more on board for accountability? Sparkspeople is a great free site with lots of tools where you can do a Scouter Council/ District group or use Roundtable as a check in point. Doing those before and after pics are a GREAT motivator in keeping it off.

So true Adam, Woodbadge is about learning to set goals AND finish them. Just because that first ticket earns your beads doesn't mean you stop.

Me TOO on this was a trip down memory lane. My first Pack experience with my son was in a Pack with good program planning so I never saw the impact of 'GREAT' programming planning. My second experience was exactly like what you wrote. Cubmaster really do have loads of work but can take a Pack from a little nothing to a community known organization that EVERYONE wants to join. I was glad to be back in Cub Scouting sharing the love of ScOUTING and FUN program planning. The more hands on you do the better for those Cubs. I incorporated even more hands on the secod time because I had access to Troop stuff along with having much of my own camp gear. My den loved learning their knots while setting up a tent.

I totally relate with this. I have Nine boys in my den who most have been with me from Tigers. I really am proud of them as their leader. The next step will hopefully finish with Eagle ranks.
